Ricotec has taken a proactive step towards environmental restoration by leading a reforestation initiative on Mount Soche. This Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project aligns with the company’s commitment to sustainability and community well-being, reflecting its dedication to creating a greener future.

Deforestation, driven by illegal charcoal production and unsustainable land use, had weakened the area’s natural defences, exacerbating the damage caused by extreme weather. Recognizing this urgent challenge, Ricotec mobilized employees from its Blantyre, Lilongwe, and Mzuzu offices to plant 500 trees on the mountain.

Mount Soche, a critical ecological zone standing at 1,500 meters above sea level, has long suffered from deforestation, leading to soil erosion, biodiversity loss, and increased vulnerability to landslides. The tree-planting initiative aimed to counteract these effects by restoring the mountain’s ecosystem.

Guided by experts from the Soche Conservation Trust, Ricotec employees planted indigenous tree species chosen for their resilience. The event was more than just an environmental effort; it also fostered team spirit and a shared sense of responsibility among employees. A hike to the mountain’s summit reinforced the importance of conservation, as participants witnessed firsthand the stark contrast between lush greenery and deforested areas.

As a RICOH partner, the company continues to integrate sustainability into its operations, reinforcing its commitment to responsible business practices. Looking ahead,  Ricotec remains dedicated to expanding its CSR efforts, proving that sustainability truly starts with collective action.
